Double DNS Failure. Resolved and Apologies

Mike LevinYes, we got hit with a rare double-DNS-failure on Sunday. We promptly recognized and sorted the problem and are taking measures so that it will not happen again. Sorry for anyone that was negatively affected, and thanks for sticking with us.

Downtime is understandable. It happens. Unfortunately it also caused a javascript error box to appear in IE whenever any pages with the hittail code were requested. This reflects badly on the user. Is there anything you can do in future to ensure that failures occur gracefully without impacting the user?

A 100% uptime SLA for DNS is available if your business model and/or site monetization warrant it, via managed DNS, depending also on how important your users' experience is at this point. If you're Amazon, of course, every second of uptime counts, or if you're the contender trying overtake Facebook or MySpace. Non-monetized blogs often settle for free DNS.

Every second of uptime is important for us too. Unfortunately, because every HitTail user gets their own subdomain for tracking, we have some very strict control criteria for DNS and need automation tools not normally in managed hosting. Is there an API?
