Please note! HitTail no longer requires you to install tracking code. The recommended approach for using HitTail involves linking your Google Search Console account, which is a short 2-step process. For details on how to link HitTail to your Google Search Console, please see this page.
If you still prefer to use the legacy method of collecting your traffic data, please follow these instructions:
5. Install the tracking code on every page of the website. You need to put the code in a block of HTML that is displayed on every page. If you can put it in the same place where you put your Google Analytics code, you should be ok in nearly all cases. If in doubt, we recommend the footer of the page, right above the end
Please note that this script works only with search engines that don't encrypt their referral data. Because of the "Not provided" issue, it is better to link HitTail to your Google Search Console if you want to have keyword suggestions for Google-specific search.
Installing tracking code on WordPress
We’ve prepared a plugin for WordPress that allows you to deploy the tracking code much quicker. You can install our Wordpress plugin by searching for HitTail in the Install Plugins section of the dashboard or uploading it manually. (Note: free sites hosted on Wordpress.com do not allow you to insert tracking code).
