What should I do with suggested keywords?

1. Use suggested keywords to build a keyword portfolio for your website.

Once you start receiving suggestions, move the ones you want to keep to your To Do List. This way you can build a keyword portfolio for your website by constantly adding new relevant keywords to the list.

In the To Do List you can mark keywords that you already target on your website and see what keywords yet need to be targeted. This will help you avoid targeting the same keywords on multiple web-pages, and hence, make sure there is no internal competition between your own web-pages.

2. Add new content.

If you find keyword ideas that you haven’t targeted yet, you can use them as topics to add new content to your site. For example, if you have a blog, use the keywords as your article topics. If you don't have a blog, you can create new pages using these keywords or incorporate them into existing pages on your site. You can even use the keywords as topics to create your own editorial calendars.

Generally, you should target no more than 2-3 keywords that have close meaning on a single landing page or an article. When you add new content to target selected keywords, please make sure to follow on-page SEO optimization techniques to rank well with the keywords.

You can also order articles optimized for specific keywords directly from your HitTail account. To do so, just click on the “Order” button next to the keyword you want to get an article for and then follow the instructions. Our writers are SEO-savvy. So you just need to specify which keywords you'd like to target with an article and they will do the rest for you.

3. Improve your existing content.

If you find a suggested keyword in the My Hot Keywords tab and you already target it on your website, this might be because your website is not among Google’s Top 10 with this particular keyword yet.

If this is the case, make sure to include the suggested keyword into Title tag, headers and throughout the text on the web-page where you target the keyword. The aim is to apply on-page optimization techniques to improve rankings of your web-page for that specific keyword.

If this doesn’t help, you may need to get a couple of backlinks pointing to the web-page. Once you’ll get into Google’s Top 10 with the suggested keyword, you will receive several times more visits coming from the keyword compared to what you get currently.

4. Use suggested keywords for link building.

Another option is to use suggested keywords as link text (or “anchor text”) when building links to your website. Google likes to see a variety of link texts in the links that point to a website. HitTail suggestions are a great way to vary your link texts in a natural, but beneficial way.

5. Use suggested keywords in PPC campaigns.

You can also use suggestions in your Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaigns. This has proven to be very effective, because long tail keywords are not as competitive and are therefore less expensive. In fact, since they are better targeted, they often have higher conversion rates too.
